Inspiration: Do What Makes You Happy

Posted by Lalonie Farnell on

Have you ever noticed that the age that we live in is very rushed? You're rushed to school and work in the mornings, you're too rushed to make it to the gym, you're rushed to grow up, you're rushed to accomplish everything in one tiny lifetime and not miss a single beat. Maybe it's just me, but I find this age exhausting at times. Exhilarating, yes, but at times exhausting. I feel like most of the time I'm doing things I'm supposed to do rather than what I truly want to do. I don't mind working hard, but I think there should be a pretty even balance between work and leisure (and if I'm so bold, more leisure than work). At the end of the day I want to go to bed knowing that my day was fulfilled-- not necessarily filled to the brim, but fulfilled with quality time doing things that mean something to me.

I think there's a lot more to life than errands, chores, fast food, and alarms. I think we need to stop every once in a while and take time to do things that we love to do. When is the last time you read a book for pleasure? When is the last time you took a walk? Or chatted with a friend face-to-face (cellphones not present)? I don't ever want to fill my mind with busy things that take the place of more meaningful thoughts. Maybe I feel rushed, but I don't feel like I have a lot of time to waste. This life is precious and short and I want to make the most of it. I want to do more things that make me happy! I made a list of things to do when it's time to take a break and live life; take a look at it and let it remind you to slow things down every now and then :)

Do More of What Makes You Happy

  • Spend time with people who make you smile
  • Read a book for fun
  • Take a walk with a friend
  • Have a deep conversation with anyone (friend, mom, boyfriend, acquaintance, etc.)
  • Visit your grandparents
  • Lay in the sunshine
  • Open a window
  • Create a new hobby or revisit an old one
And these are just a few options! I encourage us all to stop, breathe, reevaluate our routines and make more time for the things that make us happy. Live free!
