The Secrets of Contouring

Different Styles of Contouring:

The contouring craze has been going strong for the past year and the latest trends are sure to take off- even if they are a little crazy. Contouring allows makeup gurus to be creative and experimental. YouTubers are making a fortune off of creating crazy contouring ideas that gives you the runway look.

Clowning:

Clown contouring is the newest way to perfect the face. YouTuber, Esther Isabel Amado Romo (aka Bella De Lune,) has made the clown contouring trend take off with her tutorial. Clown contouring is her way of striking back at her haters that have called her the cruelest names including clown. Bella De Lune shows YouTubers how to have the perfectly sculpted cheekbones to make you look as fierce as Gigi Hadid on the runway. Instead of the typical bronzers and highlighting colors, the brightest pinks, greens, and reds are used to make the dramatic clown look. The typical contouring shapes aren’t used either. As the picture shows, Esther put a smiley face on her forehead. But it doesn’t have to stop there. The craziest of shapes can be used for the clown effect. The crazier the better! Hearts, stars, and spider webs are some of the more popular shapes for contouring.

Strobing:

The popular beauty item for strobing is the Anastasia Beverly Hills: The Original Contour Kit. Another contouring trend for the year is strobing. Strobing goes for the more natural look than most contouring ideas. Instead of dark bronzers and bright pinks for regular contouring, all you need for strobing is highlighter: the brighter and more illuminating the better. The goal of strobing is to get the perfect dewy look which is great for summertime! Instead of your makeup being cakey with layers upon layers of makeup you can do a simple coat of foundation and then highlight the rest of your face: on your cheekbones, forehead, bridge of your nose, and jawbone. The most popular illuminator/ highlighter for strobing would be the Cynthia Rowley Beauty Brightening Illuminator, which you can order online from Birchbox.

Baking:

The other popular way to contour is Baking. Baking is the idea of letting your makeup “cook” or letting it sit on your face while you use a powder puff. You add multiple layers of light powder under your eyes, cheekbones, forehead, and your nose like other contouring trends. The reason baking became so popular is that it makes your makeup last and last! Instead of having to reapply powder throughout the day to not be shiny, the thick layer of baking makes the shine stay away. The most popular powders for baking are Make Up Forever Super Matte Loose Powder or Nars Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder which you can pick up at Sephora.
