No Mud, No Lotus
In this life we are tested through our experiences. We are tested by trauma, turmoil, heartbreak and heartache. What good is this for the soul? What purpose does our pain serve us? We are meant to rise above the pain in order to know love, and as Lotus flowers we must grow through mud in order to bloom. They say no mud, no lotus and here we say know mud, know lotus. It is through darkness that lessons are learned; just as a Lotus seed is embedded in mud, harboring the nutrients from the dark soil. It is through light that our love grows; just as the lotus blooms once the sunlight hits its petals.
Our graphic tank reminds us that “Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise”. This quote derives from the 18th century French musical Les Miserables, which translates to ‘the miserable ones’. This playwright is set during a time in history where the French were going through bouts of war and uproar. Having experienced a great deal of economic hardships, disease and food shortages the French Revolution shot up. Events began happening such as the Storming of Bastille and the Reign of Terror which led to the ruling of Napoleon. At the time, Napoleon was viewed as a great liberator for the French. After all, they were looking for someone to end all of the madness. Fifteen years pass by peacefully and the newest king was thrown from his reign. A second French Revolution broke out but the ending was not so pretty. Blood was shed and the French were left with little to no hope.
Although Les Miserables was a sad and heart wrenching story, the author Victor Hugo was inspired by the turmoil enough to write a play about it. Often we experience difficult situations in our personal lives and we forget that society experiences these same feelings on a much larger scale.
No matter what you are going through whether it’s a breakup, losing a loved one or you’re just flat out having a bad, know that “For the wretched of the earth there is a flame that never dies. Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.” Like the lotus flower, we must rise to our beauty with all of our might. Don’t allow the mud to slow you down, instead reap what is sown and just grow, grow, grow.
